For me this response is an honest one because I have always considered myself to be a mermaid. You don't need to over-complicate your story, you can keep it simple and to the point. Try to really feel the energy of the person you are talking to, especially if it is a child. Not all children are so fortunate to have parents who nurture their imaginations and they might have a hard time getting on board with you as a mermaid. That's OK! We can't get upset with them for that! It's our responsibility as mermaids to help show people that it's OK to be creative and use your imagination. Patience is key!
If you believe what your saying about yourself as a mermaid, others will believe it. You need to speak with authority and confidence in whatever story you decide to go with.
When it comes to how you feel about being a mermaid, you need to take the time to decide what mermaiding means to you. There are so many aspects to being a mermaid and so much potential in so many areas, that there will always be a place for you.
It's a journey my fishes, we are all swimming at a different speed and that's part of the magic!
You can be as real as you want to be and you can quite literally use mermaiding to transform your life and create your own reality, one of creativity, wonder, and magic!
Definitely check out this week's podcast episode as well to complete the picture!
Hello my fishes and welcome back to another blog post! Today we are talking all about the Fantasea Too mermaid monofin by the epic tail maker, Mertailor!
Just look at my shadow in this pic! How many other fins out there do you know that can deliver such a punch! It's so on-point with the vibe it's trying to achieve.
Even though I don't intend to purchase one for myself, this fin would be perfect for someone going for a very specific look as a mermaid. Definitely cool!
While I can't speak on its durability, I have seen people have a few issues with it, but if we are being totally honest these issues can be had with ANY silicone fin. Once you get a little tear, it can become a BIG DEAL quick which is why you should always check your fins for damage after each swim and be gentle with them!
Well done Mertailor! This is a rockin' monofin!

There are so many avenues and so many different ways to run a mermaid business above and beyond swimming in a mermaid tail for kid's birthday parties. It's very common for people to pigeonhole mermaids into a single business category, when in fact there are SO MANY ways to do it.
Running a mermaid-themed business is not an easy job to do. It is definitely a labor of love. If, at the beginning, you can't hire someone to help you, you will likely end up doing ALL OF IT YOURSELF. Example: designing logos, building websites, running social media channels, editing content, writing blog posts, making ads, taking photos, creating costumes/accessories, managing your business, doing your finances, EVERYTHING. It can be a bit overwhelming to start and it does take a level of passion and dedication to even those moments when you just don't want to be bothered anymore.
There are a lot of different ways that you can go about it. You can create mermaid YouTube videos, you could create a line of mermaid merch, you could start a blog and do affiliate marketing, you could teach, or you could make specific mermaid products (tails, tops, accessories). You can do so many different things. The sky (or the sea haha) is the limit!
Where are you going to host your business? Where are you going to advertise your business?
I use Shopify for my online shop and Weebly to host my many website. I also use Patreon, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to build a community around my business.
When it comes to the behind the scenes of running a mermaid business it can definitely be overwhelming for sure. There isn't a day that I don't question what I'm doing, but there also isn't a day when I don't appreciate and feel extreme gratitude for this journey that I'm on.
You also have to remember that turning your passion into your job can be a tricky thing. It's 100% OK to leave mermaiding as a hobby and NOT turning it into your day job. I feel like I need to remind people of that side of it too. Turning your hobby into your day job means you don't have something to fall back on when you are stressed out about your job. You might find yourself ALWAYS working. For me it works, because I am just that passionate about what I do and I have committed to this 100,000%. It has become my everything.
Keeping yourself going even when you don't want to, that's what will separate you from the other mers attempting to do this full time. You will need to know how to self-motivate and how to take breaks versus quitting entirely when things get tough (because it does happen).
If you would like to learn more about what I do and how I do it, I actually have a full mermaid mentorship program that is designed to help guide you and network with other mermaids that are building their businesses.
