Vancouver Aquarium NEWS!!!!
Hey my little fishes, Courtney Mermaid here and welcome back to my channel! In today's video I will be giving you an update on the captive cetacean situation at the Vancouver Aquarium.
Today, Jan 18th, 2018, Aquarium CEO John Nightingale announced that the Vancouver Aquarium will no longer be displaying captive cetaceans at their facility. This does come with a bit of an asterisk as they will still house cetaceans receiving medical care and while in their care, they may be kept in their display pools. In an ideal world I would be interested in seeing them do any long-term housing in a sea-pen, but hey ONE STEP AT A TIME.
This is the day so many of us have been waiting for and I cannot wait to see how this decision could influence or impact other facilities around the world. All that being said, there are still some issues left unaddressed. The Vancouver Aquarium does have belugas on loan to American facilities and I would be interested to see what the plan is for them.
There is also the concern of cetaceans that may require long term or permanent care and whether they Aquarium will see fit to keep them in their facility (which they have said they will not do) or where they will end up. Again, in an ideal world, they could be kept in a sea pen and in a not so ideal world they will end up in some other aquarium on display.
All that being said, I know the pro-cap anti-cap debate is an intense one, so whatever your opinion I ask that you be respectful in the comment section.
Thank you so much for watching and happy swimming!
Dear Vancouver Aquarium...
Hey my little fishes!
So as you can well imagine, I had some thoughts to share on the recent death of Chester the False Killer Whale at the Vancouver Aquarium. My thoughts might be a little out there, but please watch my video all the way through so you can hear my full point and then form your own opinion.
Thank you for watching!
