Gel Coating Information
disclaimer
This is not a “bulletproof” solution, it is merely meant to help extend the life of your mermaid tail.
You will still need to be careful and treat your tail with respect!

❗ WARNING ❗
OdiCoat, no matter how thinly applied, may turn white with prolonged use in water but will disappear as the tail dries.
That may change though, as the tail ages and is exposed to chemicals/detergents.

why the gel coating? The gel coating may be used strategically on specific areas of the fluke that are more prone to damage including the sides of the monofin pocket, the heels, around the base of the monofin pocket, and along any ridges created by the monofin itself.
The gel is applied to the fabric in a thin layer with a small paintbrush. After the gel dries, it is then heat-set with an iron and becomes a permanent water-resistant layer. If you wish for me to add the gel coating I can, or you can purchase it online via my Amazon affiliate link here: https://amzn.to/3Z42z7l and add it yourself. ❗❗ Be sure to follow the instructions on the tub carefully and do not use too much to avoid damaging your mermaid tail. If you wish to use it on an area that has already sustained damage, repair the damage first before you attempt to add the gel! |
gel coating after use in waterThe photo on the right shows one of my personal tails after a few hours of being wet from a swim once it had been rinsed and hung to dry. On the right is the same tail 10 hours later while still damp.
As you can see there are areas of white discoloration on parts of the dark blue that faded significantly over the 10 hours it was sitting to dry. That said, some areas still show when the tail is dry because when I originally added the coating I did an additional layer which made it a bit thicker. Though this personally doesn’t bother me and I like the protection that the coating gives, it is definitely a personal preference. I just want to make sure that I am upfront with all the information so you can make an informed decision for your tail based on your needs. |
