Something I think we can all relate to is the desire to belong to something bigger than ourselves, a community, a family, a pod.
When I first got into the online mermaid community back in 2011 I wasn’t always treated nicely... People talked behind my back and I was teased and intentionally left out of things. I never said anything, but it hurt.
When you are different (in my case Autistic) and you act differently, people can be cruel.
So I set out to create my own space on the internet, somewhere just for me where I could privately share my mermaid adventures with a smaller group of like-minded people.
So the Patreon Pod was born!
I started by sharing behind the scenes content which later evolved into a monthly subscription service in an effort to get people into my apparel line (www.ShopVancouverMermaid.com) and from there it evolved into a mermaid mentorship program which then grew into the glorious community it is today.
We share our ups, our downs, our stories, our adventures, and of course our passion for all things merfolk!
This incredible group of mers have not only given me a safe space on the internet where I can share my mermaid magic but they also do so for each other! When I think of REAL mermaid magic, this is what I'm talking about!
